Geneva transfer duty calculator: the amount due

Enter the purchase price and tick the main residence box: the calculator gives the duty at the full rate, the Casatax reduction and the amount actually due.

Your purchase

The price stated in the deed of sale.

Transfer duty 3% (LDE art. 33). Casatax reduction of CHF 20'924 for a transaction not exceeding CHF 1'394'928, indexed amounts applicable to deeds executed from 1 March 2026. Indicative estimate, excluding land register and notary fees.

What the calculator applies

Geneva transfer duty applies to transfers of real property for consideration at a rate of 3% of the price stated in the deed, under article 33 of the law on transfer duties. Not a single additional centime is added on top: the rate shown is the final rate.

When the home serves as the buyer's main residence, the Casatax reduction is deducted from this amount. It amounts to 20,924 francs for a transaction whose value does not exceed 1,394,928 francs, indexed amounts applicable to deeds executed from 1 March 2026.

The ceiling works on an all-or-nothing basis. One franc of price above the limit wipes out the reduction entirely, and the bill then jumps by 20,924 francs in one go. The calculator flags this tipping point instead of leaving you to discover it at the notary's office.

What the calculator does not cover

The result covers only the transfer duty itself. The land register fee, the notary's fees and the duty on the mortgage note are added on top, and can be calculated with the notary fees calculator.

The detailed conditions for the reduction, the required period of occupation and the consequences of an early resale are covered in the Transfer duty in Geneva guide.
