Who is eligible for Casatax
Casatax reduces the transfer duty for the buyer of a home intended as their primary residence, in Geneva. The property must be occupied by the buyer themselves, and must remain so: reselling it or renting it out too soon triggers a clawback of the reduction.
The saving is made up of two components: the capped reduction on the transfer duty on the sale, and the halving of the duty levied on the mortgage note taken out to finance the purchase. The two add up, which is why a financed purchase costs less than a cash purchase.
What the reduction does not cover
Casatax affects neither the land registry fees nor the notary's fees. These items remain payable in full and are added on top of the price.
The applicable cap, the conditions for keeping the reduction and how it fits with the other acquisition costs are detailed in the guide to Casatax in Geneva.
